Description
Nexum Cap 20mg 2×7’s
Nexum Cap 20mg 2×7’s are an enteric-coated pellet formulation of esomeprazole magnesium due to its acid labile nature. This Capsule is the S-isomer of omeprazole, which is mixture of the S- and R- isomers which inhibits gastric acid secretion more effectively than omeprazole. Chemically This Capsule is bis(5-methoxy-2-[(S)-[(4-methoxy-3, 5-dimethyl-2-pyridinyl)methyl]sulfinyl]- 1H-benzimidazole-1-yl) magnesium trihydrate. The molecular formula of Nexum Cap 20mg 2×7’s is (C17H18N3O3S)2Mg x 3H2 O.
This Capsule is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid. General – Symptomatic response to therapy with this Capsule does not preclude the presence of gastric malignancy. – Atrophic gastritis has been noted occasionally in gastric corpus biopsies from patients treated long-term with omeprazole, of which esomeprazole is an enantiomer.
Proton pump Inhibitor may be associated with an increased risk of Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea, especially in hospitalized patients. – Proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy may be associated with an increased risk for osteoporosis-related fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine. Patients should use the lowest dose and shortest duration of PPI therapy appropriate to the condition being treated.
Co-administration of atazanavir with proton pump inhibitors is expected to substantially decrease atazanavir plasma concentrations and may result in a loss of therapeutic effect and the development of drug resistance. – Co-administration of saquinavir with proton pump inhibitors is expected to increase saquinavir concentrations, which may increase toxicity and require dose reduction.
