Rosuvastatin is used with an appropriate diet to lower “bad” cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, and triglycerides) and increase “good” cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It belongs to a group of medicines called ‘statins’. It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver. Lowering “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides and raising “good” cholesterol reduces the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks. In addition to eating an appropriate diet (such as a low-cholesterol or low-fat diet), other lifestyle changes that may help this drug work better include exercising, losing weight if you are overweight, and quitting smoking.

• Rosuvastatin is used to treat hyperlipidemia.
