LIPIGET 10MG TABLET
LIPIGET 10MG TABLET (Atorvastatin) is a synthetic lipid-lowering agent. LIPIGET 10MG TABLET, Atorvastatin is an inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase. LIPIGET 10MG TABLET enzyme catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate, an early and rate-limiting step in cholesterol biosynthesis. Chemically, atorvastatin calcium is [R-(R*, R*)]-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-ß, δ-dihydroxy5- (1-methylethyl)-3-phenyl-4[(phenylamino)carbonyl]-1H-pyrrole-1 heptanoic acid, calcium salt (2:1) trihydrate. The molecular formula of LIPIGET 10MG TABLET is (C33H34 FN2O5)2Ca•3H2O. LIPIGET 10MG TABLET is a selective, competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the rate limiting enzyme responsible for the conversion of 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A to mevalonate, a precursor of sterols including cholesterol. General Before instituting therapy with atorvastatin, an attempt should be made to control hypercholesterolemia with appropriate diet, exercise, and weight reduction in obese patients, and to treat other underlying medical problems. Liver function abnormalities Liver function tests should be performed before the initiation of treatment and periodically thereafter.
LIPIGET 10MG TABLET is used as an adjunct to diet in hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol), heterozygous (genetic disorder characterized with markedly increased LDL and cholesterol )and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (a condition in which it is difficult to remove bad cholesterol from body), mixed hyperlipidemia (genetic disorder characterized with high lipids (fats), cholesterol and free fatty acids in blood).
Lipiget can cause GI upset, myalgia , arthralgia , headache, asthenia (abnormal weakness), insomnia (difficulty in sleeping), dizziness, paraesthesia (abnormal sensation of skin such as tingling, burning, chilling and numbness), hypoaesthesia (reduces sensation in one or more body parts), chest and back pain, pain extremities, epistaxis (bleeding from nose), muscle spasms, joint swelling, abnormal LFTs, raised creatinine kinase, ALT and CPK levels, hyperglycemia (high blood glucose), nasopharyngitis (swelling of nasal passages and back of throat, commonly known as cold) etc. Immune mediated necrotising myopathy is also reported.
When not use
This medicine is contraindicated in active liver disease, persistent raised liver enzymes. Adequate contraception should be ensured.
