Esorid Capsules 20mg 14’s is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems (such as acid reflux). It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. It relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. It’s usual to take esomeprazole once a day, first thing in the morning. You can take it with or without food. If you take esomeprazole twice a day, take one dose in the morning and one dose in the evening. Swallow tablets whole with a drink of water.

Do not take nonprescription esomeprazole for longer than 14 days or treat yourself with esomeprazole more often than once every 4 months without talking to your doctor. Continue to take prescription esomeprazole, even if you feel well. Call your doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve during this time.

Nexium and other heartburn drugs may cause weight gain — as can other drugs, such as certain antidepressants, beta-blockers, and antihistamines. You should talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting any medication so you understand all the potential side effects of any drug you take. Esomeprazole should be taken at least one hour before a meal. Swallow the pill whole and do not crush, chew, break, or open it. If you cannot swallow a capsule whole, open it and sprinkle the medicine into a spoonful of pudding or applesauce. For most people, acid levels return to normal within one to two weeks.
