Description

Dormicum Injection 5mg 10Ampx5ml is used before medical procedures and surgery to cause drowsiness, relieve anxiety, and prevent any memory of the event. It is also sometimes given as part of the anaesthesia during surgery to produce a loss of consciousness.

Midazolam injection is also used to cause a state of decreased consciousness in seriously ill people in intensive care units (ICU) who are breathing with the help of a machine. Midazolam injection is in a class of medications called benzodiazepines. It works by slowing activity in the brain to allow relaxation and decreased consciousness.

Midazolam is sometimes used for the acute management of seizures. A benefit of midazolam is that in children it can be given on the cheek or in the nose for acute seizures. Drawbacks include a high degree of breakthrough seizures due to the short half-life of midazolam.

Midazolam is also sometimes used in newborns who are receiving mechanical ventilation, although morphine is preferred, owing to its better safety profile for this indication. Sedation using midazolam can be used to relieve anxiety and manage behaviour in children undergoing dental treatment.  When used, additional caution is required in newborns; midazolam should not be used for longer than 72 hours due to the risks of tachyphylaxis.
