Co Tasmi 80 plus 12.5mg Tablet (Telmisartan + Hydrochlorothiazide) is a combination of Telmisartan, an orally active angiotensin II antagonist, and hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic. Telmisartan is chemically described as 4′-[(1, 4’-dimethyl-2′-propyl [2,6′-bi-1Hbenzimidazo l]-1′-yl)methyl]-[1,1′-biphenyl]-2-carboxylic acid. Its molecular formula is C33H30N4O.  Hydrochlorothiazide is chemically described as 6-chloro-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,2,4- benzothiadiazine-7-sulphonamide 1,1-dioxide. Its molecular formula is C7 H8ClN3O4S2. Co Tasmi 80 plus 12.5mg Tablet is used to treat an essential high blood pressure condition in patients who are suffering from the state of uncontrolled blood pressure while having therapy with telmisartan alone. Hydrochlorothiazide works by eliminating the excess amounts of sodium, chloride and potassium salts from the kidney and telmisartan works by preventing the activity of certain natural substances that tighten the blood vessels which results in decreased blood pressure. Angiotensin 2 Receptor Blocker , Co Tasmi 80 plus 12.5mg Tablet is a prescription medicine that belongs to a class of medicines called Angiotensin 2 Receptor Blocker. Angiotensin II receptor blockers are used for the treatment of high blood pressure and heart failure. Co Tasmi 80 plus 12.5mg Tablet act by relaxing the blood vessels and makes it easier for your heart to pump blood

Uses

Co Tasmi 80 plus 12.5mg Tablet is used in the treatment of hypertension (increased blood pressure) as well as cardiovascular (heart and blood vessels) related events in patients with established atherosclerotic , cardiovascular( heart and blood vessels ) disease. It is also used in patients with type 2 diabetes. With end organ damage.

Side Effects

Patients using Telmisartan may at times experience upper respiratory tract infections, back pain, and sinusitis. If you experience any of these symptoms for a prolonged period of time, please consult your doctor. Patients administered with Hydrochlorothiazide may experience anorexia (eating disorder characterized by abnormally low body weight) and epigastric distress (pain right below ribs, in the upper abdomen (stomach area).

 When not to use

Telmisartan is not recommended in patients with severe hepatic  impairment and various other disorders of the gallbladder.  It is also contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia .
