Claforan Injection 0.25gm 1Vial is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of Gonococcal Urethritis or Cervicitis, Rectal Gonorrhea, bacterial infections, and as a prophylaxis for surgical infections. Claforan Injection 0.25g 1Vial may be used alone or with other medications. Claforan Injection 0.25g 1Vial belongs to a class of drugs called Cephalosporins, 3rd Generation. Cefotaxime is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. It may also be used to prevent infection from certain surgeries. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as cephalosporin antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

Cefotaxime may be administered intravenously by bolus injection or by infusion, or by intramuscular injection. The dosage, route, and frequency of administration should be determined by the severity of infection, the sensitivity of causative organisms, and the condition of the patient. Sterile CLAFORAN Injection 0.25g (cefotaxime sodium) is a semisynthetic, broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic for parenteral administration. Comparative nephrotoxicity studies revealed that cefotaxime is one of the best-tolerated cephalosporins.

Uses

This medicine is used in lung infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, soft tissue infections, gonorrhea (sexually transmitted disease), septicemia (blood poisoning caused by bacteria), meningitis (inflammation of the brain), surgical procedures, and in the treatment of infected burns and wounds.

Side Effects

This medicine may cause vomiting, allergy, headache, fever, injection pain, candidiasis (oral or vaginal infection), increased liver enzymes, anemia (decrease red blood cells), colitis (inflammation of the colon), encephalopathy (brain disease), disorders which decrease white blood cell types (neutropenia, leucopenia, granulocytopenia) or kidney problems. When Not To Use

Claforan belongs to a class of drugs called Cephalosporins, 3rd Generation. It is not known if Claforan is safe and effective in children younger than 12 years of age.
