2o2o summer Olympics is an international multiple sports event. Olympics are held in various countries, and this year it has been held in Tokyo, Japan, from 23rd July to 8th August 2021. Health And Games Of Olympics : The event was initially scheduled for 2020, but due to the COVID 19 virus, it shifted to 2021.

Originally, the first Olympic games were held in Greece in 776 BC. In the early Olympic games, only males were allowed to participate. However, later the rule was modified, and women were allowed to compete for the first time in 1900 when the Olympics were held in Paris.

There are two types of Olympic games, the winter Olympic games, and the summer Olympic games.

The Olympic games have always been quite regular, except for no Olympic games held in 1916, 1940, and 1944. The reason was the ongoing war.

DEATHS CAUSED DURING OLYMPIC GAMES:

A total of 10 athletes have died either competing in or during practice. Fourteen athletes have been killed at the Olympics, of which 11 of these deaths resulted from the Munich massacre of 1972.

Several accidents have also caused non-participants, such as during the lima football rite of 1964, the Tlatelolco massacre in Mexico in 1968, and 2 deaths resulting during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park bombing.

Pakistan joined the Olympic games for the first time in 1948 in London. Pakistan has sent its renowned athletes to participate in every summer Olympic match since then. However, Pakistan did not participate in the 1980 summer Olympics in the Soviet Union due to the American-led boycott.

Pakistan has also appeared in the winter Olympics in the years 2010, 2014, and 2018, and is also scheduled to participate in the 2022 winter Olympics which will be held in Beijing, China.

Pakistan has won a total of 10 medals, all of which were acclaimed in the summer Olympics. In addition, Pakistan has won 3 gold, three silver, and four bronze medals. Eight of these medals were won from men’s field hockey.

Pakistan has also won individual awards in the Olympics, bronze, 1 in wrestling, and 1 in boxing. The former one was won in Rome in 1960 and later in Seoul in 1988.

Unfortunately, Pakistan has not secured a single medal since the Olympic games held in 1992 Barcelona.

Contact with stationary objects: such as ground or poles

Contusions: an athlete may develop bruises due to blunt injuries

Elbow injuries: elbow tendinitis occurs due to lack of rest or improper technique

Tendon injuries: commonly injured due to overuse

Sprain: tearing of ligaments usually occur due to lack of flexibility or overstretching

MEASURES TO REDUCE INJURIES AMONG ATHLETES:

Measures have been suggested and taken into account to avoid injuries among the athletes and ensure a better and more efficient environment. Many of such actions are listed below:

  • Proper training and evaluation of the athlete
  • Immediate first aid availability
  • Trained staff of health care workers
  • Vehicle availability for immediate transportation.
  • Rehabilitation center
  • Proper inspection of the equipment
  • Specialized coaches for the athlete
  • Penalties for irrational players
  • Wear protective gear
  • Avoid participation in case of injury
  • The player should be aware of the rules of the said game
  • Physical examination of each player should be conducted before the game
  • Make sure to take enough rest before the game
